Tasman IPA The Series: Beer 4 of 4
Consider this your docking party as we land upon the distant shores of our Tasman IPA journey. We’ve taken everything we’ve learnt from the series and combined it, creating an IPA worthy of a celebration. Much like the ones DJ indulges in on approximately December 30th each year when he arrives in Hobart after 4 sleepless nights.
For the science bit: Tasman IPA’s have reduced kettle hop additions, thus reducing base bitterness. The dry hops are added individually for predetermined contact times and completely removed before the next variety is added. This contact time, between 12-48 hours depending on hop variety, is considerably shorter than traditional IPA’s. This creates an ultra clean hop profile.
For the flavour bit: A longer initial addition of Columbus creates a dank, resinous base before 24 additions of Citra and Mosaic provide a full middle palate of citrus and tropical fruit. A final large addition of Riwaka adds top notes of grapefruit rind with hints of melon.
